When it comes to finding a great NYC apartment, renters must be sure to have their priorities in order and find out
if a potential apartment has the characteristics that they absolutely can't live without before going to physically
view the vacant unit. This will save both the renters and landlords lots of time:
* If you have a beloved pet, that should be one of the first questions you ask. While many landlords won't readily
advertise that they accept pets, many will on a case by case basis, and some owners can be enticed to let a pet
reside in one of their apartments with an extra security deposit.
* If being in close proximity to a certain subway line or to public transportation in general is very important, be
sure consider just how far it is when initially inquiring about the apartment
* Hardwood floors vs carpeting are another characteristic that can be very important to many people. There are
some instances when, depending on a person's preference, carpeting can be removed to expose wood floors or,
if so desired, carpeting can be put down before move in day
* If the building is a walkup, be sure to ask exactly what floor the available apartment is located on - you don't
want to take the time to view a sixth floor apartment if there's no way you'd ever consider walking up and down
that many flights of stairs every day
Of course these are just a couple of sticking points....so be sure to decide what is most important to you when
searching for a NYC apartment!
