It's simple...buying real estate is too expensive for many people, especially in New York City, & the only remaining
option is to find a rental. An individual who only intends to live in New York City for sixth months or a year (and
there are a lot of people who reside in the city only temporarily) will also want a rental. Finally, an apartment rental
can be found very quickly as opposed to initiating the purchase process which can often take up to a year to
complete. There are many life situations that cause people to need to find a place in a hurry - jobs, roommate
situations, divorces/breakups, family obligations, the need to downsize or upgrade, etc.
