Finding a great NYC apartment quickly and easily usually involves compromise.  You're just not going to find a
two bedroom ,West Village apartment in a doorman building with an eat in kitchen and balcony that is pet friendly
for $1500 per month (okay that may be a bit extreme but you get the point).  It is best to have an idea of what you
absolutely need and what you would love to have but may be willing to live without.  Obviously you are not going to
be willing to give up your beloved dog or cat, but you may be willing to forgo the idea of having a balcony - after
all, there's always Central Park!

Apartment characteristics which should be prioritized:

* Is it pet friendly - usually a must have
* Do you need an elevator - some people necessitate, while others don't
* Outdoor space - a balcony or backyard in the city is always great but often goes unused
* Location - usually not something anyone is willing to compromise, hence the age-old real estate slogan
'location, location, location'
* Lease term - is there a mandatory lease term or is the landlord somewhat flexible - this is something that should
never be compromised
* Eat in kitchen - some of us love to have that separated kitchen, but it can be more fun eating at the coffee table
* # of rooms - a couple might love to have a second bedroom while roommates may absolutely need two
separated rooms
* Proximity to the subway - apartments closer to transportation are usually more expensive - many people don't
mind walking a few blocks to save a couple of bucks

Please remember that every apartment hunter has individual wants and needs, we have listed some of the more
common things that people need to consider.
