Searching for a rental apartment can be a different experience in each of the NYC boro’s.  The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island all have unique qualities that every New Yorker (or soon to be New Yorker) should be familiar with.

Manhattan is clearly the boro most synonymous with NYC.  While convenient for work, cultural activities, dining, and nightlife, Manhattan boasts some of the highest apartment rental prices in the city.  Nonetheless, 70% of Manhattan residents rent their apartments.  Finding an apartment in Brooklyn has become increasingly popular among NYC transplants and young people who have started to move into all of its various neighborhoods.  Many families looking for a rental apartment head towards Queens, which offers more space while having convenient access to Manhattan.  Similar to Brooklyn, Queens is comprised for tightly knit, unique neighborhoods, many of which are made up of immigrant communities.   The Bronx is NYC’s most northern boro and is home to the Yankee Stadium & the Bronx Zoo. The Bronx subway lines make it easily accessible to the Manhattan downtown business district and midtown areas; it also offers some of the cheapest rents in the city.  Staten Island has the most suburban-like qualities of all the boro’s and thus attracts a lot of families, rather than young adults who want quick access to Manhattan.  Make sure to have your ducks in order when deciding what boro of the city you want to call home!
