The political organization of New York City:  The leader of the city is of course

president which have minimal executive powers.  Each borough also has
elects a district attorney just as every other county in the state.  

Although there officially five boroughs of New York City many refer to places
like New Jersey, Westchester, and Long Island as the "sixth borough".  

As each borough of the city is a county as well one may hear the different
areas referred to as such:  the Bronx is Bronx County, Brooklyn is Kings
County, Manhattan is New York County, Queens is Queens County and
Staten Island is Richmond County
