No Fee Rental By Owner Tips: Roommates
It is quite common (especially in New York City) that at some point in our lives, generally when starting out as adults, that many people have roommates. Most landlords accept and encourage having one or two roommates. Although an owner will generally not want too many people in one small type space as is causes friction, noise, and excessive wear & tear on an apartment.
While some landlords will combine the prospective roommates income in order to qualify for the apartment, others will require that each of the roommates qualify on their own.
The issue that a landlord will have with roommates (or cohabitating couples) is that there could be a fallout or disagreement, and one of the parties may choose to move out leaving the entire rent responsibility to the remaining party.
