NoFeeRentalByOwner.com Tips: The last of the cheap neighborhoods
Upper East Side, Manhattan: The best bargains are the furthest from the subway over on 1st and York Avenues in the walkup building. The apartments are also generally cheaper in the 90's rather than down in the 80's and 70's. The 4,5,6 trains are reliable and frequent and there's lots of great stuff to do all over the place. While it's not as trendy as the West Village and Chelsea the Upper East Side is definitely one of the best valued neighborhoods in prime Manhattan.
Washington Heights, Upper Manhattan: While it may be a bit troublesome to get your downtown friends to come and visit you in Upper Manhattan, rest assured that you'll be getting a great deal on an apartment and you'll be living in a fantastic residential neighborhood. With lots of brownstones and prewar buildings there's charm and character around every corner of Washington Heights.
